Ohanaeze said it was shocked that Femi Adesina who should know, that there is only one Ohanaeze Worldwide, led by Professor Obiozor, could be in alliance and give audience to an unrecognized splinter group.

In a statement made available by the Spokesman, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Alex Chiedozie Ogbonnia, on Monday, the group said Femi Adesina’s action was nothing but sycophancy.

The statement obtained by Nationalwatchng read, “The Office of the Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has been inundated with telephone calls from traditional rulers and eminent Nigerians both at home and in the Diaspora over the audience granted by Mr. Femi Adesina to some Igbo renegades and impostors who use the sacred name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation for self gratifications.

“The election of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide was held on January 10, 2021 at Dan Anyiam Statdium, Owerri, Imo State through which Ambassador Prof. George Obiozor and the current executives were duly elected. The election which was adjudged very free and credible was witnessed by the Chairmen and members of Traditional Rulers Council from Igbo Land, the South East Governors led by Engr. Dave Umahi, Members of National Assembly of Igbo extraction, the Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from Igbo Land, the Clergy and several Igbo groups that are affiliated to Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“Although some persons went to social media to express their grievances, I am persuaded that it would have been most un-Nigerian for the aggrieved to accept their losses in good faith.

“President Buhari declared that, “given Prof. Obiozor’s rich background, especially, in international affairs and pan-Nigerian commitment, I have little doubt that his election is well-deserved and will serve not only the interest of Ndigbo, but also that of his fatherland.” He added that “we need all hands to be on deck for this country to move forward in peace and unity”.The Igbo leadership in the National Assembly have lent their supports in profound ways to the Obiozor group. Several high placed Nigerians and foreign missions have since sent congratulatory messages to the outstanding diplomat and his team.

“It is therefore very inconceivable that Femi Adesina, the supposedly number one chief press officer of the federation will play host to some charlatans in red cap under the guise of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Those who read sinister motives to the Adesina romance with the Igbo renegades posit that as the Chief Press Secretary to the President, one would expect a high degree of prudence, scrutiny and reflection in the discharge of his duties. The general impression is that Adesina, a seasoned journalist, has disingenuous ways of fanning the embers of crisis in Igbo land thereby lending credence to the stereotype of Igbo disunity.
