UK Bans Work And School Program For Nigerians

The government of United Kingdom has sanction working and schooling program for immigrants, who are schooling in all British higher institutions.


The new policy according to UK High Commission in Nigeria affects all immigrants, who are studying as undergraduates and above.


According to the new policy, immigrants shall be able to get work permit in the United Kingdom after graduation.


The policy closes what has been in operation, for students, undergraduates and post graduates, who hitherto, combine schooling with work.


UK said the policy is aimed at retaining the best brains in the UK after graduation, by the immigrant students.

According to the second Secretary Political/Head of Communications, British High Commission, Dean Hurlock, in a statement made available on Thursday 4, March, titled, ‘New UK post-study graduate route to open to Nigerian students this summer.

The statement read: “Today, the UK government has confirmed the new Graduate route will open for applications on 1 July 2021, to international students who successfully complete a degree at undergraduate level or above in the UK.


“International students on the Graduate route will be able to work or look for work after their studies for a maximum period of two years (three years for PhD students). This will allow the UK to retain the brightest and the best students to continue to contribute to the UK post-study.’’

Statistics showed that over 13,000 Nigerians were granted admissions in 2020, by different universities in Britain.
