Senate Is Slowing Governance Down – House Of Reps Leader

The Majority Leader, Federal House of Representatives, Alhaji Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has lamented, the displeasure of the Green Chamber, with the Upper Legislative House, Nigerian Senate, over what he described as non reciprocal attitude of Senators in passage of bills, sent from Green Chambers.

 

Alhaji Alhassan Ado Doguwa, who stated the displeasure of the Green Chamber on Wednesday, during Plenary, said, it was saddening, that every bill passed by the Red Chambers, which comes to the Green Chamber, is given accelerated hearing and passage, regretted that the same concurrence is not shown by senators.

Alhaji Alhassan Ado Doguwa, said: “As I rise to do this, I want to put on record that this House takes seriously the issue of working together with the Senate for maximum performance.

 

“That is why this House has always given speedy consideration to bills passed by the Senate. Unfortunately, we cannot say the same thing about the Senate.

 

“We have quite a number of bills passed by this House which are still lying on the table of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business unattended to. This is a thing of concern to the leadership of this House.”

Alhaji Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Honorable Member Representing, Tudun-Wada/Doguwa Constituency, Kano State, said that, the non concurrence by the Red Chamber is given slow motion to governance as the bills are for effective governance of Nigeria.

 

He stated that Bicameral legislature needed that the two chambers give speedy considerations to bills passed in any of the chamber. He appealed to the Nigerian Senators to fasten the bicameral relationship for good governance.

“I want to appeal to the Senate to give urgent attention to bills passed by this House seeking concurrence. That is how a bicameral legislature works,” he said.
