The Executive governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has said that not all the bandits are criminals, stating that some of them according to him, have good intentions.

This is as he faults President Buhari, ‘No Fly Zone’ order, saying it was not the right step for the state. He said the declaration, showed the Federal government does not understand the security problems in Zamfara.

Governor Matawalle said, as state governor, who came into office and inherited an eight years banditry, which the formal governor, Abdulazeez Yari, made discreet, without Nigerians knowing the actual state of insecurity in Zamfara, he had expected President Buhari would have consulted him to hear his opinion before taking such action.

Gov. Bello said, he tried every means to make the actual state of banditry in Zamfara known to the president and Nigerians to show his sincerity of ending it, and had expected a serious consideration of his role from the president, Muhammadu Buhari before such declaration.

The governor revealed further, that the bandits who repented out of his amnesty program, were the ones who negotiated with the abductors. He stated that the abductors, were among the bandits, who refused to embrace the state government amnesty program.

He emphasized that the repented bandits, made the release of the Jangebe school girls, possible without payment of ransom, as according to him, the repentant ones knew those who abducted the school girls.

Governor Matawalle maintained that some of the bandits have good intentions, stating that some of them went in to banditry, because of circumstances and as a way to revenge for what was done to them.

He said: ” Some of the bandits have good intention. They were pushed in to banditry, because of what happened to them, because of injustices, which were done to them.

“Some will tell you that in their presence their father and mother were killed, some say that their mother were raped in their presence.

“Some of them with that trauma, they just concluded that to join criminals to take revenge.”

Governor Matawalle said, this is why the state government welcomes the contribution of religious leaders who are de-radicalizing them for a better human being.

“That is why imams go to them to de-radicalize them, and get them repent, to submit their weapons to the government, so that they can live normal life activities”, Gov. Bello said.

The governor, who made the disclose in a live television program monitored by Nationalwatchng, stated that for the Federal government to declare state of emergency in Zamfara state, it has to be in all northern states, stating that banditry is causing havoc in all the northern states of Nigeria.
