Bafana Bafana will play their international friendly against Uganda on 10 June without head coach Hugo Broos, the national team confirmed.
Kickoff is scheduled for 18:00.
In a statement released on Sunday, the South African national team confirmed that Broos’ two assistants Janevski Čedomir and Helman Mkhalele will be in charge of Bafana Bafana.
Broos, himself, explained his possible absence toward the end of May, stating that he would be going back to Belgium for a second jab of Covid-19 vaccine.
He was scheduled to take the vaccine on 4 June, and it would have been almost impossible for him to return to South Africa soon afterwards.
The Bafana Bafana squad, announced by Broos in May, is already in camp to prepare for the encounter in Soweto.
This will be the first time that the country gets to see Čedomir barking instructions from the technical team bench.
Mkhalele, on the other hand, is known to the majority of South African football fans as he had been involved with the country’s U20 team in recent years.
The match against Uganda is seen as the start of a new era for Bafana Bafana who lost two coaches in Stuart Baxter and Molefi Ntseki in the last two years.
And the mandate is clear for Broos, Čedomir and Mkhalele, and that’s to ensure that Bafana Bafana qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.
