PRESIDENT CYRIL RAMAPHOSA SAID ON WEDNESDAY EVENING THAT THE COUNTRY IS NOW CAPABLE OF INCREASING TESTING FOR THE CORONAVIRUS
The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) CEO – Professor Glenda Gray said on Thursday that an evidence was available to prove that up to 40% people in some communities don’t know that they had contracted COVID-19.
President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Wednesday evening that the country is now capable of accelerating testing for the coronavirus.
Ramaphosa said there would be a start of a nationwide survey so as to assist scientists have a far better understanding of the amount of individuals who were asymptomatic and might been exposed to the virus without their knowledge.
Dr Gray said that good immune responses to COVID-19 would be of benefit to the country at large.
“If people limit the quantity of spread which will happen to the vulnerable population. So, it’ll be variable and what we’ve to try to to is to be very careful. There are some parts of the country that had tons of exposure like healthcare workers.”
“Up to 40% of healthcare workers could are exposed and have an honest immune reaction . But that doesn’t mean everyone within the population will have an equivalent immune reaction or an equivalent background,” she said.
