Renowned human rights lawyer and former apartheid struggle stalwart – George Bizos has died at the age of 92.
Bizos happened to be counsel during the 1950s and 1960s to an outsized range of well-known people, including Trevor Huddleston of Sophiatown.
Moreover, Bizos was formerly among the legal team that defended Mandela , Govan Mbeki, and Walter Sisulu at the Rivonia Treason Trial from the year 1963 to 1964.
Neeshan Balton of the Ahmed Foundation said Bizos was “a towering giant in numerous facets of out liberation struggle.”
“Now all the Rivonia trialists are joined by the last member of their legal team. Hamba Kahle Uncle George.”
